Maxim DULEBA - OBRAZ ŽENY V OBRATNÍKU RAKA HENRYHO MILLERA (DEPICTION OF WOMAN IN HENRY MILLER'S TROPIC OF CANCER)

Abstract

Henry Miller’s Tropic of Cancer was decried for being “pornographic attack on woman’s dignity” by conservative spectrum of the literary criticism in the 20th century. In this article, author reveals various popularized myths in perception of Henry Miller and argues that the novel is not degrading woman. He finds that the conscious schematization of the woman’s character is an output of Miller’s effort to follow the tradition of romantic poetry in the late-modernistic period. Furthermore, erotization of woman’s character helps Miller to create an antipode to belief in ideals and the higher principle of human existence. Miller’s acceptance of the Nietzsche’s cult of body is in a direct synthesis with the Nietzsche’s concept of the “Übermensch”“, which is resistant to any ideals and/or dogmatic ideologies. Author concludes that the image of woman in Miller’s novel is highly metaphorical and involves a strong philosophical context. Woman serves as functional metaphor providing for unidealistic reflection of subconscious processes, which are part of every human psyche.

Keywords: Henry Miller, Tropic of Cancer, demythologization, modernism, romanticism, erotization, myth.

Hidalg, who teaked in his poems the gaucho issues, the typical language of the gauchos. The gaucho tradition also has its important place in the literature of the twentieth century. J. L. Borges, one of the most appreciated writers in the panorama of the world literature, left the traces of the gaucho phenomenon in his short story ‟Man on Pink Corner”.

Bohdan ULAŠIN - PREJUICIOS ÉTNICOS EN ESPAÑOL: ANÁLISIS LÉXICO-SEMÁNTICO DEL USO SECUNDARIO DE LOS ETNÓNIMOS FRANCÉS, MORO Y JUDÍO (ETHNICAL PREJUDICES IN SPANISH: A LEXICO-SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF THE SECONDARY USE OF THE ETHNONYMS FRENCH, MOOR AND JEWISH)

Abstract

Ethnic prejudices constitute evidence of perception and evaluation of other cultures and language communities by means of ascribing figurative meanings to an ethnonym. It can be achieved by a relatively free semantic association or by using the ethnonym in a phraseological unit, or even it can become lexicalized and be part of the semantic definition of a dictionary entry. In this work, we analyze three ethnonyms and their meanings in the Spanish language: French, Jew, Moor.

Keywords: ethnonym, secondary meaning, ethnic neighbours, prejudice, semantics.

Anikó TOMPOS, Lívia ABLONCZY-MIHÁLYKA - TACTICS CONTEXTUAL-SITUATIONAL FACTORS AND BUSINESS NEGOTIATORS‘ CHOICES

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to report on the findings of a quantitative investigation carried out in the western Transdanubian region in order to gain information on Hungarian business professionals’ foreign language knowledge, organisational behaviour and negotiating habits. The present study focuses on the role of certain contextual-situational variables which influence business negotiators’ choices in opting for or against the use of ethically ambiguous negotiating tactics. First, the literature on the role of ethic in negotiations, ethically questionable negotiating tactics and variables affecting their employment is reviewed. Then, the research methodology and sampling are described and the results are presented and discussed. The results are also compared to the findings of a previous qualitative investigation carried out by the authors. In the light of the data from the two pieces of research, the paper concludes that for practising Hungarian business negotiators their relationship with the negotiating partner and the importance of the negotiations’ outcome are the most important variables while the gender of the opponent seems to affect their use of tactics the least.

Keywords: ethic, business negotiations, contextual-situational variables, EANTs.
